The Greencards Create New Album Brick By Brick

Post a Comment

Bluegrass musicians The Greencards are releasing their new album entitled "The Brick Album" on June 21. The band decided to self-finance the production of this album with the "Buy A Brick" campaign. A donation of $100 entitled the supporter to receive an early copy of the album, a digital image of the album's cover art and their name on one of the bricks on the album's artwork. Donations of $200 received the same as the $100 donation, but their name will appearon the album's cover. This new album also includes the supporting help of Sam Bush and Vince Gill. The album was produced by studio veteran Justin Niebank (Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Keith Urban). The band's last two releases have topped the Billboard Bluegrass charts and this album is sure to follow.

The new album starts off with some of the best acoustic guitar, mandolin, and violin picking to be recorded in quite awhile. The addition of Sam Bush on slide mandolin gives the song "Make It Out West" that extra energy. The voice of Carol Young on "Faded" is just soft and delicate enough to touch your heart as it doesn't try to overpower the song. The most country sounding song on the album is "Heart Fixer" which features vocals and guitar by Vince Gill. His voice meshes so well with Young's, you wish their was a whole album with the two of them singing. The eerie sounding "Mrs. Madness" get highlighted by Young's tantalizing vocals. The Celtic side of The Greencards comes shining through on the instrumental "Adelaide" before returning to a more country/bluegrass sound on "Here Lies John". The album's other instrumental, "Tale of KangRio" shows off Kym Warner's wonderful mandolin skills and gets revisited again in the album's final song.

The Greencards recently performed at the Strawberry Park Bluegrass Festival at the beginning of June and have a full schedule of dates through to November. They will be performing in Connecticut again on July 28. For a complete list of tour dates and album information, please visit their website, thegreencards.com.
